Dizziness

There are many causes of dizziness and some of the common ones are: labyrinthitis, vascular issues, low blood pressure, hyperventilation, neck problems and Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. A physiotherapist specialising in this line of work can help diagnose the cause of the problem and if appropriate, then treat them. Dizziness can be very distressing for the sufferer and it needed be prolonged when physiotherapy treatment can quickly be accessed privately. BPPV is caused by small crystals in the inner ear dislodging and moving into the wrong part of the canal and causing severe dizziness on change of position. This can be diagnosed using the Dix- Hallpike movement test and if positive is then treated by the Epley Manoeuvre. This is a sequence of specially designed movements which can be applied in the clinic and the patient quickly ceases to have any symptoms of dizziness. Occasionally the technique has to be applied again on a second visit but administered correctly to a patient diagnosed with BPPV, it is a miraculous treatment.
